Sustainalytics’ 10 for 2021 report aims to support investors interested in gauging environmental, social and governance (ESG) risks and opportunities in the global food value chain. We survey key subindustries – from agrochemicals, agriculture and aquaculture to packaged food, food retail and restaurants – in search of solutions that may support the principles of the circular economy (CE). These principles include minimizing waste and pollution, extending the use-phase of products and ecosystem regeneration. We identify 10 publicly traded companies in this space that are taking steps to manage the ESG impacts of their operations, supply chains and product offerings, while also developing related solutions. Finally, we assess a set of CE themed investment funds and discuss approaches to portfolio construction, engagement and financing strategies.

This is the seventh edition of Sustainalytics’ 10 for series – an annual publication that focuses on 10 key environmental, social and governance (ESG) themes for investors to think about in the new year and over the longer term.
