Investors who pay close attention to environmental, social and governance factors are also taking notice of AI, with resolutions on AI oversight increasingly appearing on corporate proxy ballots. This report examines 15 recent shareholder resolutions at US companies that address oversight and transparency in the use of AI.
Our analysis found that shareholder support for resolutions on AI exceeded support for proposals on other environmental and social (E&S) themes. The average adjusted support was 30% — almost double the support for recent resolutions on E&S themes (16%). As with E&S themes more generally, we also noted a divergence between US and European asset managers voting on resolutions addressing AI, with the European managers we reviewed exhibiting stronger support than their US counterparts.
